Why bring in a Life Value fractional advisor
Senior seat in a week
A signed retainer puts a fractional CTO, CISO, or product lead in your standup within seven days. No six-month recruitment loop.
Named deliverables, not advice
Architecture review, hiring plan, vendor selection brief, board compliance posture, sprint check-ins. Each retainer ships specific artifacts.
Replaceable in a week
Monthly retainer, not annual contract. Swap the seat if the chemistry is wrong or the scope shifts from CTO to CISO mid-engagement.
Compliance fluent
HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, HITRUST, C5, HDS, and MDR posture briefed at the level the board and the auditor both accept.
Network on the retainer
The advisor brings the HTN community, FHIR practitioners, and named regulators into the room. Procurement-facing introductions on day one.
Lower committed spend
A 1 to 3 day per week seat at a quarter of a full-time loaded cost. No equity dilution. No severance exposure.
Retainers that ship the artifacts the board asked for
Outcomes from the fractional engagements Life Value advisors have run across payers, hospitals, ministries, medical-device makers, ISVs, and founders.
From signed retainer to the advisor sitting in your standup.
Per week, for a 3 to 12 month engagement with named deliverables.
Of fractional engagements renew or convert into a longer term seat.
How a Life Value fractional advisor is different
A paid retainer with named deliverables, a senior healthcare engineer in the seat, and a one week swap clause. Not a deck-reviewing equity advisor.

What does a fractional CTO actually deliver inside a 3 to 12 month retainer?
Named deliverables, not deck reviews. An architecture review of the existing HealthTech stack. A hiring plan and interview loop for the next three to five engineering roles. A vendor selection brief covering Redox, Particle Health, Health Gorilla, Aptible, Vanta, or whichever piece of the orchestration gap you sit in. A compliance posture brief for the board covering HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and whichever framework the buyer will redline. A week by week sprint check-in with the in-house team.
Who actually uses a fractional advisor instead of hiring full-time?
Hospitals modernizing without a full-time CTO bench. Payer innovation programmes that need a senior engineer voice during procurement of a new claims or prior authorization system. Medical-device makers spinning up a digital product without hiring a tech VP. ISVs scaling past the first compliance audit. Ministries running a national FHIR programme without an in-house architect. Pre-Series A founders who need a CTO signature on the SOC 2 report and the FHIR layer but cannot commit to a $400k salary yet.
How is this different from an advisor with equity, or a management consultant?
An equity advisor reviews your deck once a quarter for half a percent of the cap table. A management consultant writes a slide deck and leaves. A Life Value fractional advisor is on a paid retainer with named deliverables, sits in your standup, signs off on architecture decisions, owns the hiring loop, and is named in the procurement file when the buyer asks who the engineering lead is. The retainer ends when the deliverables ship or when a full-time hire takes the seat.
What happens if the chemistry is wrong or the scope changes?
The retainer is monthly, not annual. If the chemistry is wrong in month one, we swap the advisor from inside the Life Value bench. If the scope changes from CTO to CISO mid-engagement because the SOC 2 audit moved up, we swap the seat. A full-time hire takes six months to recruit, three months to onboard, and twelve months of severance to remove. The fractional seat is replaceable in a week and the engagement note moves with it.
